Chill
Discomfort and Saturn / Neptune in Aries
Tonight, at 1:12am here in New Zealand, we have the Aquarius new Moon. It’s a solar eclipse, on the North Node, the head of the dragon, bringing fated beginnings and new directions. The North Node can bring changes in where we’re heading and signal that it’s time for something different in a certain area of our lives. It can represent something we’re not used to, something we haven’t tried before.
A new Moon in its own right is also a new beginning, inviting us to surrender one cycle and step into another. The planet Uranus is often given rulership of Aquarius by modern astrologers. He is the planet of electrification, of shocks and surprise twists. He’s making a square - a challenging, inflammatory aspect - to this new Moon, infusing it with even more out-of-left-field unpredictability as well as a liberatory current.
The traditional ruler of Aquarius, Saturn, is also in a new place at this time, having just stepped into Aries, the first sign of the zodiac. In a few days on the 21st he is going to conjoin with Neptune at zero degrees of the zodiac. The precision - for the two of them to meet just there - is exquisite. It’s telling us that it’s time for something new.
The thing is, Saturn is said to be fallen when he’s in Aries, it’s the place he likes least to be. He’s the planet known for sobriety, maturity, for considering things carefully before taking action. He’s not impulsive. Aries on the other hand is known for being the firebrand of the zodiac, for taking action first and thinking about it later - if at all. Saturn does not enjoy being here. And that’s what I want to bring forward here. Discomfort.
All of these pieces - the North Node steering us into uncharted territory, Uranus bringing uncertainty and surprises, and Saturn being way outside his comfort zone - together speak to this. It’s time for something new. And we don’t know what that is. Or we don’t know how to do it yet. We haven’t been here before. We haven’t done this before. And it’s going to be deeply uncomfortable.
There’s been a lot of hype about this coming Saturn / Neptune conjunction - and with good reason. But this is your permission slip - if you need one - to chill. The astrology is big, the times are unprecedented, there is so much going on. And it’s so important to take a moment, breathe, come back to where you are, let go of the bigness of it all. Let it all go. The point of this moment is that you don’t know what to do or how to do it - old stories, past ways ways of doing things, aren’t likely to help. Embrace the uncertainty, allow the discomfort. Take care of yourself, take care of others, reach out to people for support - we’re all here to help each other through it - and allow what needs to to arise out of the uncertainty and chaos. In true Aries fashion - organically, moment to moment, as it needs to.
Happy new Moon everyone.
